Online Transition Webquest
It should be obvious that my professional interests revolve around online education. I have been giving some thought to what I would like to research more deeply within this area, and have concluded that learning about what it takes to transition to online classes from the traditional classroom could be useful to the many teachers finding themselves in that position. To that end, I will be creating a webquest for potential online teachers to discover what it takes to be an effective online teacher, creating their own personalized checklist along the way. They will be looking at such areas as learning theories, multimedia information channels, the psychology of learning, response time in eLearning, becoming a facilitator, collaboration, student-centered learning, online course communities, synchronous and asynchronous learning, creating inviting discussion postings, formative evaluations, and many other topics associated with this migration to cyberspace.
Introduction
The Burning Question - Do you have what it takes to make the switch from instructor-centered learning to student-centered learning? Can you put together a solid checklist to make this transition once you have the information you need?
This WebQuest is designed to help you make the transition to online learning keeping your own unique style of teaching. Along the way, it is hoped that you will also:
* Learn about yourself through self-reflections
* Learn more about what motivates your students
* Become an early-adopter of the "student as the center of the learning universe" concept
* Add new strategies to your existing wealth of knowledge about teaching and learning
